WASHINGTON, DC (June 5, 2024) – Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL–15th) introduced amendment #594 to H.R. 8070 - Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 to restore the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS). The amendment is currently cosponsored by Representatives Carter (GA-1st), Garbarino (NY-2nd), Green (TN-7th) and Pfluger (TX- 11th).
The American Chemistry Council joined with several trade and union groups to send a letter to House leadership urging them to support Rep. Lee’s amendment.

Restoring the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) is essential to protecting our industry and defending the nation from terrorism. CFATS provides companies with important security tools and is the only national program focused on chemical facility security. Nearly a year has passed since Congress allowed CFATS to expire and as a result companies have not been able to vet almost 80,000 people accessing chemical facilities against the FBI’s terrorist screening database. Congress must do its job to protect America and pass Rep. Lee’s amendment to restore CFATS as part of the NDAA.
