At every construction site you will find chemistry hard at work. Creating materials that save energy, improve durability and lower costs, American chemistry provides endless possibilities for building a stronger future.
During the recent Building and Construction showcase held in the foyer of the Rayburn House Office Building, the American Chemistry Council, along with other industry leaders, showed policymakers how chemistry can improve buildings, homes and our nation’s infrastructure.
Hosted in conjunction with the Congressional Chemistry Caucus, companies at the forefront of innovation displayed many examples of how cutting-edge science is used to protect homes from the elements, reduce energy consumption and improve roads and water systems.
Did you know?
In 2023, nearly 30.1 billion pounds of chemistry products were used in building materials for over 900,000 single-family homes in the United States, averaging 33,100 pounds per home.

To make sure builders have the materials they need, policymakers must adopt smarter policies that allow chemistry to continue to provide constructive solutions. This includes, among other things:
- Fixing Implementation of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)
- Preserving Manufacturers’ Use and Reliance on Innovative Chemistries
- Supporting Pro-Growth Tax Incentives that Lower Consumer Costs
- Prioritizing Cost-Effective Water Infrastructure through Open Competition
Building a stronger, more affordable America requires developing and producing more American Chemistry.
