Companies are striving to reduce their carbon footprints as consumer demand for sustainable products increases. ACC member Avient has developed a Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) Calculator that evaluates and reports the carbon footprint of its products.
By providing information on the PCF of Avient products, this tool can help Avient’s customers understand the environmental impact of their own end products and provide a clearer picture of their carbon emissions. The calculator allows Avient to help address the challenges that some of its customers face when determining which products have a lower carbon footprint.
Key features of the PCF Calculator include:
- Third-Party Certification: The PCF Calculator is certified by TÜV Rheinland, providing a third-party review for quantifying and reporting the carbon footprint of products.
- Baseline Carbon Footprint: It allows companies to establish a baseline carbon footprint for their products.
- Sustainability Goals: By using the PCF Calculator, businesses can better understand the carbon footprints of their products and align with their sustainability and carbon emission reduction goals.
Some of the industries that use Avient products include energy, transportation, construction, healthcare, to package food, suncare, cosmetics, and beverages, and more.
Avient says it monitors customers’ use of the PCF Calculator to help determine its value to customers. From its launch in later 2023 through early 2024, the PCF Calculator’s monthly customer usage doubled, and Avient continues to track use to help gauge the utility of the tool. Avient’s PCF Calculator can help enable collaboration across the value chain, from suppliers to converters and brand owners, to help them identify opportunities to help meet their sustainability goals.
Avient says the PCF Calculator has helped the company strengthen relationships with external stakeholders who are looking for more sustainable products and has also helped it create new relationships with stakeholders who choose to work with the company due to its commitment to sustainable innovation.
