The chemical industry’s commitment to continual improvement was center stage at this year’s Responsible Care® & Sustainability Conference and Expo, with industry stakeholders coming together for the Conference’s first in-person gathering in nearly three years.
The three-day event, which took place in Miami, Florida, provided educational and networking opportunities for the close to 250 ACC members, Responsible Care Partners and other industry representatives in attendance.
From first-time attendees to seasoned practitioners, the Conference offered something for everyone, from pre-conference introduction workshops like Responsible Care & Sustainability 101, to more complex issues like the current global supply chain challenges. Below are some highlights:
- In collaboration with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Center for Chemical Process Safety, we delivered an informative and engaging workshop on Leading Causal Factors for Process Safety Incidents, supporting industry’s recently announced goal of reducing Tier 1 process safety incidents by 20 percent.
- Cybersecurity took the main stage, with an opening keynote from Theresa Payton, former White House Chief Information Officer, on emerging cybersecurity threats and opportunities for companies to enhance their security measures.
- Sustainability initiatives were the focus of our Day 2 plenary session, with keynotes and panel discussions on climate, water, and circularity.
- With several enhancements recently made to the Responsible Care Codes of Practice, attendees took a deep dive into updates in areas of Security, Process Safety and Product Safety.
- A select group of Responsible Care Future Leaders and Responsible Care Committee members shared insights on how to use emerging technologies to help create a safe and sustainable future at the Accenture sponsored session, Bridging Experience, Innovation and Digitization to Build a Safe and Sustainable Future.
- We were pleased to welcome representatives from the next generation of industry participants, including student representatives from SABIC and Future of STEM Scholarship Initiative recipients. The enthusiasm and engagement of our FOSSI and industry-sponsored students is critical as we seek to cultivate the next generation of diverse talent for the chemical industry.
- We were also proud to recognize ACC’s 2022 Responsible Care Award winners, who are demonstrating exemplary performance in priority areas such as facility safety, energy efficiency, waste management, product safety, and more.
Thank you to all our 2022 sponsors and exhibitors, who helped make this year’s event a resounding success. (Logos of Accenture, Red-On-Line and ABS QE). Save the date for next year’s conference, taking place April 16-19, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
