Semiconductor: Chemistry Critical to National Priorities 

It takes no less than 500 highly specialized chemicals to manufacture one semiconductor chip. Advanced manufacturing of semiconductors includes multiple steps that require chemistry produced by U.S. chemical manufacturers, including the creation of silicon crystals, wafer cutting and polishing, and chemicals to etch complex circuitry.
