WASHINGTON (August 7, 2017) – The American Chemistry Council today issued the following statement commending the Environmental Protection Agency for addressing the backlog of pending pre-manufacturing notices under the amended Toxic Substances Control Act:

“We commend Administrator Pruitt for his commitment to the effective implementation of the Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act. Addressing the backlog of applications for new chemicals is a critical step. Today’s announcement shows real and deliberate progress toward this important goal, but there is still work to be done to completely clear the backlog and prevent it from recurring. We strongly support the Administrator’s commitment to a more predictable and transparent process for decision-making and look forward to continued collaboration in achieving these improvements. U.S. businesses, jobs, innovation and competitiveness depend on the success of a fully functioning new chemicals program as envisioned by Congress when it passed the law.”
