WASHINGTON (February 15, 2013) – This year’s Global Chemical Regulations Conference and Expo will take place February 25 – 27, at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. The annual gathering of industry professionals offers a valuable opportunity to review key developments in chemicals management and to look ahead to some of the most pressing issues in 2013.

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) and Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates (SOCMA) are pleased to welcome keynote speakers Dr. Joe A. Schwarcz, accomplished science writer and director of the Office for Science and Society at McGill University, and Geert Dancet, executive director of the European Chemicals Agency. Dr. Schwarcz will highlight important topics in risk communication and how they relate to chemicals management, including improving public understanding of science. Mr. Dancet will comment on his agency’s current priorities and other relevant issues, including preparations for the 2013 submission period for the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), and enforcement activities.

The opening plenary session on February 26, “All Things TSCA,” will offer conference attendees a valuable opportunity to hear insights from industry and government officials on the state of play on key regulatory issues and the legislative effort to update TSCA.

“For nearly 30 years, GlobalChem has provided an inclusive venue for industry leaders, the regulatory community and other stakeholders to come together to discuss how to safely, efficiently and effectively manage chemicals in commerce,” said Cal Dooley, ACC president and CEO, who will be giving opening remarks on the first day of the conference. “This year’s conference takes place during an important juncture for chemicals management and the global economy. In addition to moving TSCA modernization forward, enhancing international regulatory cooperation will be critical to help enhance safety, foster innovation, boost exports and drive real, tangible growth.”

“Participating in GlobalChem each year, as so many in our industry do, underscores how important product safety is to all of us, as industry representatives, as family members and as consumers,” said SOCMA president and CEO Lawrence D. Sloan. “The value of GlobalChem resides in the fact that it is more than a conference hosted by associations but a dialogue held between stakeholders.”

ACC and SOCMA also announced that the following organizations have all confirmed their sponsorship of this year’s Conference and Expo: Beveridge & Diamond, PC, Keller & Heckman, LLP, Chemical Watch, Steptoe & Johnson LLP and workshop sponsor, Technology Sciences Group.
